Streaming Bitrate Chart By Resolution
Use this chart alongside the calculator to match your target resolution and frame rate.
| Resolution | Frame Rate | Recommended Bitrate | Min. Upload Speed Needed |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4K UHD (3840×2160) | 30 fps | 15 – 25 Mbps | 25 – 35 Mbps |
| 1440p QHD (2560×1440) | 60 fps | 9 – 13 Mbps | 14 – 18 Mbps |
| 1080p Full HD | 60 fps | 6 – 9 Mbps | 9 – 13 Mbps |
| 1080p Full HD | 30 fps | 4.5 – 6 Mbps | 7 – 9 Mbps |
| 720p HD | 60 fps | 4 – 6 Mbps | 6 – 8 Mbps |
| 720p HD | 30 fps | 2.5 – 4 Mbps | 4 – 6 Mbps |
| 480p SD | 30 fps | 1 – 2.5 Mbps | 2 – 4 Mbps |
Bitrate Caps By Platform
Every streaming platform enforces its own maximum bitrate. GamingUP27 Bitrate Calculator accounts for these automatically.
CPS Click Speed Test
Test how many clicks per second (CPS) you can do. Pick a duration, hit the button as fast as you can, and see your score.
Timer starts on your first click.
Mouse DPI Checker
Estimate your mouse's DPI (dots per inch) by tracking on-screen movement against a real physical distance.
1. Click Start Tracking below.
2. Physically move your mouse in one straight line across your desk or mousepad (a ruler helps).
3. Click Stop Tracking when you're done moving.
4. Enter the real distance you moved the mouse and hit Calculate DPI.
How Bitrate Calculation Works
Everything you need to understand OBS bitrate settings and streaming quality.
What is bitrate in live streaming?
Bitrate is the amount of video and audio data sent to your streaming platform every second, measured in megabits per second (Mbps) or kilobits per second (Kbps). A higher bitrate generally means sharper, cleaner video — but it also demands more upload bandwidth. Setting the wrong bitrate is the most common reason for a stream that buffers, drops frames, or looks blurry.
The bitrate calculator formula
GamingUP27 Bitrate Calculator uses a simple, proven formula used by streamers on Twitch, YouTube Live, Facebook Gaming and Kick:
- Recommended Bitrate = Upload Speed ÷ Safety Buffer
- Safety buffer of 1.5x–2x accounts for network fluctuation, packet loss and background bandwidth usage.
- Audio bitrate (128–320 kbps) is calculated separately and added on top of video bitrate.
Why upload speed and not download speed?
Streaming sends data from your device to the platform, so your upload speed is what matters — not download speed. Always test your real upload speed with a speed test tool before setting your OBS bitrate, since real-world speeds are often lower than what your ISP advertises.
OBS bitrate settings tips
- Use CBR (Constant Bitrate) rate control in OBS for the most stable stream on Twitch and YouTube.
- Keyframe interval should be set to 2 seconds for best platform compatibility.
- If your stream drops frames, lower your bitrate by 10–15% before changing resolution.
- Wired ethernet connections are more stable for streaming than Wi-Fi.
For 1080p at 60fps, a bitrate between 6–9 Mbps is recommended by most platforms including Twitch and YouTube Live, provided your upload speed is at least 9–13 Mbps.
Twitch caps bitrate to keep streams watchable for viewers on slower connections worldwide and to manage server load, regardless of how fast your internet connection is.
No. Going above a platform's cap or your stable upload speed causes dropped frames and buffering for viewers. The goal is the highest bitrate your connection can sustain reliably, not the highest number possible.
Use a speed test tool such as Speedtest.net or Fast.com. Run it a few times at different times of day, and use the lowest result to calculate a safe streaming bitrate.
Most people average around 5–7 clicks per second. Scores of 8–10 CPS are considered fast, and competitive clickers using techniques like jitter or butterfly clicking can reach 12+ CPS.
No tool running in a browser can read your mouse's raw hardware DPI directly. This checker gives a close estimate based on on-screen pixel movement versus real physical distance. For an exact reading, check your mouse manufacturer's official software.
